This is interesting. Twice, California voters rejected a cigarette tax increase in 2012 and 2006. Despite early polls showing overwhelming support winning with more than 70%+. Big Tobacco spent tens of millions of dollars to deceive the public on lies and it worked. The same thing happened in Missouri and they still have the lowest cigarette tax in the nation thanks to big tobacco. I want a market for this ballot initiative to bet on whether Big Tobacco really is invincible. They know exactly what do to, how much money to raise and what ads to run down to an exact science to guarantee their side always wins.
The market is ok, just not your crazy liberal description of it.
